How to Celebrate Easter with Loved Ones in Long-Term Care Facilities

With Easter coming up on April 4, it’s time to make plans for celebrations with family, whether that means attending church services, going on Easter egg hunts, enjoying dinner, or just spending time together – as safely as possible.

If one of your family members is a resident of a long-term care facility, you can help them celebrate the holiday in a variety of ways, in-person or virtually. The method doesn’t matter. It’s just important to take time to include them in the celebration and make them feel loved.

In-Person Visits

Of course, the best-case scenario is being able to spend time with your parent, grandparent, or other loved one on Easter Day or in the weeks leading up to the holiday. An in-person visit will make their day, especially when it’s been difficult to do so over the past year with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on current guidelines, we allow in-person visits at Princeton Health Care Center by appointment only. Each visit can last up to 30 minutes, with two visitors above the age of 18 permitted. To schedule an appointment, call 304-961-6488 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.

Virtual Visits

If you can’t do an in-person visit, our staff can help coordinate a virtual visit with your loved one. Video conferencing allows residents to safely connect with their families. While it’s not the same as an in-person visit, it certainly helps keep your loved one’s spirits up and makes them feel special. If the resident isn’t tech-savvy, that’s ok. We’ll help set up the video call and make sure you’re able to connect.

Show You Care Without a Visit

When visiting – either in-person or virtually – isn’t an option, create a video message for your loved one. You can also send Easter care packages – or simply send a card or write a letter. Our residents especially enjoy cards, letters, drawings, or crafts from grandchildren and other youngsters. Even if you don’t have a loved one staying with us, we encourage you to make cards for our residents, some who may not have family to celebrate Easter with them this year. Cards, letters, and packages can be sent to Princeton Health Care Center at 315 Courthouse Road, Princeton, WV 24740.
